ZGB Zilco Complete Recoil
The ZGB recoil is sturdy with double butt bars for added stability. The smooth, padded butt is 80 mm (3 1/2") wide. The butt bars on the Cob size recoil are 19 mm (3/4") wide, while the Full and Extra Full Size hip straps are 25 mm (1") wide.

The recoil is essentially part of the harness's braking system. It is placed on the horse's hindquarters. When the horse slows down, it uses the recoil to prevent the vehicle from continuing to move.
Rearing is not generally used on trailing horses (tandem or team), as this function is handled by the shaft bearers/steersmen. Some drivers also choose not to use rearing when the vehicle is very light and/or has very effective braking systems - especially on modern vehicles equipped with disc brakes.
Replacement butt bars are also available for separate purchase in Cob, Full Size or Extra Full Size.
